Donald Dean Phend

Donald Dean Phend, 76, of Tippecanoe Lake, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Oct. 1, 2012, in his residence.
He was born March 21, 1936, in Columbia City, to Donald and Henrietta Nelson Phend. On Aug. 31, 1956, in Forest Park, Ill., he married Shirley World, who survives.
He lived in Columbia City until he got married, then moved to Illinois and moved back to this area 32 years ago. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1954-56 with the military police. He graduated with honors from Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne, receiving a degree in electronics. He also worked in construction for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster, and The Leathernecks Club, Columbia City.
Also surviving are a daughter, Pamela (and spouse Dale) Jonas, Steger, Ill.; a brother, Richard (and spouse Marthene) Phend; three sisters, Pat (and spouse Dave) Katt, Judy Parkinson and Sally Black; three grandchildren, Amber (and spouse Adam), Emily (and spouse Dale) and Brandon; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Zoey and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffrey Phend.
Military honors will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, by members of American Legion Post 253, North Webster. Burial will be at a later date.
Calling is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
