AKRON – Donald Alfred Drone, 81, Akron, and formerly of Springfield, Ill., passed away at 4:45 p.m. July 30, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. His passing was due to conditions brought on by the autoimmune disease, Inclusion Body Myositis. He was born Dec. 30, 1933, in Springfield, Ill., to Alfred and Hazel Vogel Drone. He married Karen Camp, who survives. They were married for 23 years. He was a licensed CPA in Indiana and Illinois. He worked for several private accounting firms before the Supervisor of Internal Audit for the Illinois State Board of Education. He retired in 1994 and then served as a commissioned lay pastor for nine years with the Macon Presbyterian Church, Macon, Ill. He read the Bible and theology books for pleasure. He enjoyed listening to classical music and all the big bands from the 1940s. He was interested in studying the Civil War and traveled to many of the battlefields during his lifetime. He enjoyed owning classic, big automobiles but especially liked driving his MGB sports convertible. He was an amateur photographer who enjoyed producing black-and-white prints in the dark room of his home. He received many awards for his work. Also surviving are, two sons: Craig (and Leann Taylor) Drone, Taylorville, Ill.; and Karl Drone, Springfield, Ill.; two daughters: Evelyn Celeste Johnson, West Monroe, La.; and Laura (and spouse Chris) Banse, Springfield, Ill.; two stepsons: Michael Derry, Springfield, Ill.; and Nathan (and spouse Holly) Camp, Sarasota, Fla.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Community Presbyterian Church. A graveside service will be at a later date in Roselawn Cemetery, Springfield, Ill. Calling is one hour prior to the service and following the service at the church.
