MILFORD – Don H. Arnold, 88, of Goshen, and formerly of Milford, passed away at 5:45 a.m. March 16, 2013, in his residence. He was born June 17, 1924, in Decatur, to Homer W. and Lulu Byerly Arnold. In 1947, he married Elizabeth Price, who passed away Jan. 6, 1960. On July 27, 1960, he married Martha Gregor, who passed away June 20, 1981. On Jan. 1, 1983, he married Nancy L. Sutton Walker, who survives. He graduated from Kirkland Township High School, Decatur, in 1942; attended Purdue University, West Lafayette; graduated from Manchester College, North Manchester, in 1948; and received a master’s degree from Ball State, Muncie. He was a World War II Army veteran. He moved to the Milford area from North Manchester in 1963 and lived there until 2012 when he moved to Goshen. He worked in the education field for 37 years, teaching and coaching at Kirkland, Orland, Adams Central and Laketon high schools, and finally retired in 1985 from Wawasee Community School Corp. after 22 years of service. He was the business manager for Wawasee from 1963-67 and the corporation superintendent from 1967-85. After retirement from education he worked for Hall & Marose Insurance, Milford, for five years. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Syracuse, and the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Kiwanis Club, all of Milford. He received the George F. Hixson Fellow Award in 2000 from Kiwanis International. He was a charter member of Lakeland Kiwanis, North Webster; formerly served on the REMC Board of Directors for 21 years; and served on the board for Milford Area Development and Waubee Lake Association. Also surviving are a daughter, Vickie (and spouse Mike) Jones, Aiken, S.C.; two sons, Dave (and spouse Irma) Arnold, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Scott (and spouse Jerri) Arnold, Bismarck, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Carol (and spouse Matt) Tuggle, Attica, and Cheryl (and spouse Kevin) Walker, Milford; a stepson, Doug (and spouse Jennifer) Walker, Middletown; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Bill (and spouse Eloise) Arnold, Auburn, and Homer (and spouse Edith) Arnold, Berne; two brothers-in-law, William (and spouse Sara) Gregor, Saginaw, Mich., and Richard (and spouse Sharon) Gregor, Ligonier; and several nieces and nephews, including Rita Price (and spouse Jack) Simpson, Mentone. He also was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and two brothers, Stanley and Eugene Arnold. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1010 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, officiated by Pastor Richard Dunning. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery.
