Dogs

Editor, Times-Union:

I see another letter from people whose dogs were apparently harmed by someone.

When I see these letters, I always wonder if these are some of the dogs I hear barking at all times of the day and night. Many people just put their dogs outside and then don't pay any attention to them. They don't seem to hear them barking, or they don't care if it is bothering most of the neighbors. While I don't condone it, I can understand why someone would want to do something to shut them up. If you are a dog owner, it is your responsibility to make sure your dog is not bothering the neighbors. Some dogs don't bark while their owners are home, but they bark incessantly as soon as their owners leave. If your dog barks, ask your neighbors, "Do you like to hear my dog bark?" If their answer is anything but "yes," they don't like to hear it.

Be a good neighbor. If your dog starts to bark, put it inside or get a bark collar. Don't let it wander through someone else's yard or drop a calling card without picking it up.

If all dog owners were responsible and considerate of their neighbors, I doubt that you would get any more letters of this sort.
