Dodgeballs Set To Fly Thursday

Posted
Serving as the first event of the United Way’s fundraising campaign, the Bowen Center’s Corporate Dodgeball event will be Thursday with the first match starting at 6:30 p.m.

Lakeview Middle School gym once again plays host to the 16-team event.

The cost to get in is $2 for anyone 10 and older. Those under 10 get in free.

Teams from all different types of local businesses will be on hand to vie for the crown of top dodgeball squad.

They also will compete to see who gets awarded "Best Dressed" or who takes the "Best Hit."

"It’s for the person that takes the best hit," said Tim Nussbaum, corporate services director at the Bowen Center. "For the past couple of years it’s been someone in the stands."

Once again, all the money goes to the United Way and helps them as they gear up for their Pacesetter campaign.
According to Nussbaum, last year’s dodgeball event set a mark of $4,000, and he said the goal is to exceed that number this year.

Both WRSW 107.3 and Willie 103.5 will broadcast live from the event.

At halftime, kids can take the court for $5 and compete against each other. There will be three age groups up to 15.

Pizza from Pizza Hut will be sold, and the Warsaw Community High School cheerleaders will be on hand to help out at the event.

There also will be giveaways throughout the night.

Items include tickets to the Day At The Lake event that benefits St. Jude. That event is scheduled for Aug. 27 and features Joe Nichols, Edens Edge and Allan and Ashcraft.

Eight gas cards, donated by Lakeside Chevrolet, will be given away, as well as two grocery cards from Owen’s.
