Dodgeball Fundraiser Planned Wednesday

Several area businesses are preparing to face off in the third annual Corporate Dodgeball Tournament.

The tournament will be held at the Lakeview Middle School gym at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sixteen teams are signed up for this year's tournament. Last year's champions, Zimmer, and the 2005 champions, YMCA, each have a team in the tournament.

Event organizer Tim Nussbaum said the tournament is an entertaining spectator event. "We usually have well over 1,000 in attendance," Nussbaum said. "Teams are encouraged to come dressed up in different themes, and we'll give out an outstanding outfit award."

An award is also given for the biggest hit. "Whoever takes the biggest hit with a dodgeball will get the award," Nussbaum said. "The first year, it was a spectator."

The tournament includes a half time, during which spectators can pay $1 to throw a dodgeball at Orby, the United Way mascot, and kids can try an accuracy throw for prizes.

The winning team and the runners-up will be awarded trophies. Nussbaum said the biggest prize is the title of best dodgeball team in the county. "It's just for bragging rights for who's dodgeball king in the county," he said.

Admission for spectators is $2. Children 10 years old or younger get in free.
