Dodgeball For CCS

Posted
As part of the annual Food-A-Thon for Combined Community Services, four Warsaw Community School Corp. elementaries took part in the dodgeball tournament Friday night at Lakeview Middle School.
In the first game, Harrison beat Lincoln. Leesburg defeated Jefferson in the second game. In the consolation game, Jefferson took down Lincoln. Once again, Harrison won the dodgeball tournament by outplaying Leesburg in the championship game.
Curtis Painter (pictured), former Purdue University and Indianapolis Colts quarterback, happened to be playing for the winning team in each game. A coin toss before each game decided which team Painter would play on. Besides playing some dodgeball, Painter also signed autographs and took pictures with fans.
Admission to the event was two canned food items, with all proceeds going to CCS. For each two items, a person received a raffle ticket, with prizes drawn between games.
To date, according to CCS Director of Client Services Peggi Lisenbee-Wright, the Food-A-Thon has raised $32,500. It takes a minimum of $2,500-$3,000 a month to help feed local needy families each week, she said.
The Food-A-Thon continues today with Willie 103.5 at Martin’s Supermarket from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
