LEESBURG – The body of a Chicago man who drowned in Tippecanoe Lake almost two weeks ago was recovered Wednesday night.
According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, the body of John J. Forbes, 70, Chicago, was located shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday in approximately 70 feet of water by two Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department divers. He was found in close proximity to the original area that he was last seen at about 5:24 p.m. on July 8.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies, with the assistance of Indiana conservation officers, used an underwater remotely operated vehicle to find Forbes’ body.
Forbes was swimming on Tippecanoe Lake July 8 off a Tri-Toon boat with his family when he went under the water and never resurfaced near 6769 N. Kalorama Road, Leesburg, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources press release.
Kosciusko County Coroner Anthony Ciriello stated the victim was transported to the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center for a formal autopsy that should be performed sometime today.
