Disbro President Of Redevelopment Panel At Winona

Posted

WINONA LAKE - Al Disbro was elected the new president of the Winona Lake Redevelopment Commission Wednesday.

Disbro accepted the nomination after jokingly trying to con Judy Reneker into taking his place.

"We do have a really good vice president," he said with a grin at Reneker.

Bob Piecuch was nominated at the last meeting June 7. He also accepted the nomination.

The commission voted unanimously for Disbro to be the next president.

In other business:

• Reneker discussed the Tax Increment Financing meeting from July 26. A TIF expert had come in to explain about TIF but the meeting was not considered an official redevelopment commission meeting.

"It was very enlightening," Reneker said.

• The property at 800 Park Ave. was approved to have its designation changed from one of economic development to one of blight.

Thie change means that the commission decided there is a better use for that property. It doesn't conform to the uses of the other property around it. The house has deteriorated to the point that it does not fit in the area for economic growth as far as the TIF district is concerned.

Town coordinator Craig Allebach said the owner of that property will be contacted some time next week.

• Allebach said the bond money that was used for improvements in the TIF area is coming back in. There is money left over for more work to be done.

Allebach mentioned using the money for work on Chestnut Avenue, King's Highway and the project of road work for College Avenue.

No decision was made Wednesday. Allebach just wanted to fill the commission in about the possibilities.

The members of the Winona Lake Redevelopment Commission are: president Al Disbro, vice president Judy Reneker, Denny Daniels, Judy Mugg and Bob Piecuch.
