WAKARUSA - Diane R. Brown, 57, Wakarusa, died at 2:16 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008, in South Bend Memorial Hospital after a three year battle with breast cancer.
She was born July 18, 1951, in Fort Wayne, to Kenneth and Marlene "Ann" McCave Roemke. On Dec. 6, 1985, in Wakarusa, she married Eric Brown, who survives.
She lived in Wakarusa for more than 30 years. She was a 1969 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School, Fort Wayne. She received a nursing degree from Fort Wayne Community College in 1970. She was a school nurse at Wakarusa Elementary School and a Wakarusa Baseball League Softball coach. She was a member of Wakarusa United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are three daughters, Jill (and spouse Jay) Madary, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; Jamie (and spouse Kerry) Fear, Argos; and Hannah Brown, at home; two sons, Joel Best, Wakarusa, and Spencer Brown, at home; her father and stepmother, Kenneth and Mary Anna Roemke, Fort Wayne; a brother, Kevin Roemke, Fort Wayne; two sisters, Denise Lucas, Wakarusa, and Laura Smith, Willmington, N.C.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wakarusa Elementary School, with the Rev. Ed Geleske officiating. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa, and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Wakarusa Elementary School.
