Diane Grose Remembered

Posted
Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety began its meeting Friday morning by honoring Diane Grose with a moment of silence.
Grose died Tuesday and was an administrative assistant at Warsaw Wastewater plant from 1988-96 and Oakwood Cemetery from 1996 until retirement in 2010.
Grose is the mother of Jeff Grose, board of works member and city councilman.
During the meeting, Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said Diane was a “good lady and mother.”
After the moment of silence, the board began business.
The board approved a contract to purchase playground equipment for Pike Lake beach during Friday’s meeting.
The board approved a $12,045.77 contract with Sinclair Recreation, Holland, Mich., to purchase a multi-level playground structure.
The board at its April 5 meeting approved the removal of playground equipment at Pike Lake beach. The removal was due to safety issues and the old equipment has already been taken down.
The equipment is projected to arrive in the next four to six weeks, and be installed this fall, according to Larry Plummer, Warsaw Parks superintendent.
Plummer said there is a 15- to 20-year life expectancy on the equipment.
In other business, the board approved a $350 contract for the Warsaw Parks Department’s Fall Family Fun event Oct. 12 in Lucerne Park for a live bat exhibit.
The board approved the parks department to trade in a 2007 mower with a deck and bagger system.
The board continued discussion on an unbilled wastewater property of Charles Allen, of Tippecanoe, who owns the property at 753 W. Market St., that was never charged for wastewater service.
The board tabled a decision on the bill at its Aug. 4 meeting to see if there were building records for the property.
The board waived the wastewater bill since they did not have a record of a building permit for any work on the apartment or a certificate of occupancy, which would have notified Allen a sewer bill needed to be paid.
The board approved Warsaw Street Department getting quotes to replace a 1994 Ford truck with a one-ton cab and chassis.
The 1994 truck is no longer safe to drive and has rusted floor boards, the cab is coming apart, there are no brakes, the frame is rusted and there are engine problems, according to a memo from Lacy Francis, street superintendent, who did not attend Friday’s meeting.
The board also approved the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory accepting $2,000 in grant funding from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation.
Funds will support the fire department’s Play It Safe Family Safety Day.
The board also approved a $450 contract between the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory and Carmen Chapman for face painters for Play It Safe Family Safety Day.
The board approved a $6,167.07 contract between the city and Copper River Cabinet Company to replace cabinets at Warsaw Fire Station 1.
The board approved a $5,385 contract with Jack Laurie Group for new ceiling tile at the Warsaw Fire Station 1.
The board approved a $4,451.93 contract between the Warsaw Building and Planning Department and Faegre Baker Daniels for professional services work for the expansion of the northern economic development area.
