Deverl 'Doc' Jefferies

ROCHESTER - Deverl "Doc" Jefferies, 87, of 1707 Edlewood Drive, Rochester, died at 7:13 p.m. June 11, 2007, in Life Care Center of Rochester.

He was born June 12, 1919, in Kosciusko County, to Isaac and Golda May McEntyre Jefferies. On Oct. 12, 1940, in Logansport, he married Martha Kalmbacher, who survives. They were married by the Rev. Edward DeWitt.

A lifetime Fulton County resident, he was a farmer east of Rochester, raising Holstein cattle, wheat, soybeans and corn. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing for blue gill and bass, and was an armchair quarterback, watching Notre Dame football and basketball.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Janelle) Green, Rochester; a sister, Retha Ballenger, Warsaw; and a granddog, Dylan Green. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kent Jefferies, in 2001; and a sister, Bernice Ballenger.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery with the Rev. Junior Bose officiating.

No calling is planned.
