Desmond Jackson, 78, of 630 E. Main St., Atwood, passed away at 3:35 p.m. March 8, 2007, to be with his Heavenly Father at his home.
He was born July 23, 1928, in Magoffin County, Ky., to John and Ocie Stanley Jackson. On June 29, 1951, in Warsaw, he married Mildred Hall, who survives after 56 years of marriage.
The founder of 30 West Auto Sales, he had been in the automotive business for 58 years. He also was a member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge for the past 40 years. He was an avid hunter and spent every fall in Iron River, Mich., at his cabin for the past 50 years, where he taught his grandsons the art of hunting with much love and pride. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He attended Victory Christian Center for the past six years and reached out to people in need of help day or night. He was a wonderful gardener, and gardening became his life in the summer where he supplied vegetables to his neighbors and friends.
Also surviving are two sons, Rick (and wife Jo Ellen) Jackson, Atwood, and Mike Jackson, Warsaw; a daughter, Mrs. Randy (Tonya) Woodling, Atwood; five granddaughters: Kristi Jackson, Atwood; Holli Jackson, St. Francis University; Britta Jackson, Brooklyn Jackson and Breck Jackson, all of Warsaw; three grandsons: Nick Jackson, Atwood; Kegan Woodling, Ball State; and Dylan Woodling, Atwood; three sisters: Mrs. Chester (Imagene) Caudill, Claypool; Lallie Spradlin, Warsaw; and Maxine Conley, Rochester; two brothers, Harold Jackson, Mentone, and Merl Jackson, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastors Ron Patrick and Tom Abbitt officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
