Derby Raises Nearly $10K for Meadows

The Magical Derby raised just shy of $10,000 for The Magical Meadows this year.
The Kentucky Derby-themed event was May 4 at Toyota of Warsaw. The money raised will help establish an operating fund for the upcoming year-round operating season.
“We again made good on our promise to provide a unique and fun experience for our guests while providing much-needed awareness and funds to The Magical Meadows,” said Tina Rice, derby chair.
The highlight of the evening was a mock horse racing event, where guests could pick a winning horse and earn prizes as payout. They could also “own” a horse, receiving trophies and prize packages for a win.
Rice noted many guests wore derby outfits as requested, some with beautiful hats they created. She said the winner of the popular hat contest paired a fedora with a rubber horse mask.
New this year was a silent auction with items donated by local businesses and online retailers. One of the items, an outdoor table from Wabash Valley Manufacturing, was purchased and then donated back to The Magical Meadows for use in their new facility, which is expected to be completed next month.
Rice said organizers look forward to next year.
“As we grow this unique event, we also grow awareness for The Magical Meadows and their mission of providing therapeutic horseback riding for our special needs community.”
