DePuy Wins $16M Patent Suit

Posted
DePuy Synthes was awarded $16 million Friday after a two-week jury trial over alleged patent infringement by Globus Medical Inc, Bloomberg reports.
The Johnson and Johnson unit filed suit against Globus in 2011, saying that it infringed on three of its intervertebral implants. The federal jury in Wilmington, Del., also decided Friday that DePuy’s patents were valid, and did not find that the infringement was willful.
Audubon, Pa.-based Globus said in a release this morning that the products in question are no longer part of its portfolio and the decision is not expected to affect sales, but that it will seek to overturn the verdict.
Globus filed against DePuy May 15 alleging that it infringed two Globus patents for a spinal implant. That lawsuit is still pending.
