Orthopaedics giant DePuy is in talks to buy an airplane hangar at Warsaw Municipal Airport from the owner of Miller’s Merry Manor, airport manager David Beall told the board of aviation commissioners Tuesday.
During its board meeting, Beall said Miller’s owner David Miller has sold off his fleet of airplanes and has no use for the large hangar that sits on land he’s renting from the airport. DePuy has apparently shown some interest in the hangar, and has made informal strides toward acquiring the plane garage.
The airport rents land for 50-year terms, Beall said.
In other business, the board on Tuesday approved use of airport grounds for a Civil Air Patrol training exercise Sept. 24-25. Board member John Yingling proposed the usage of the grounds for the weekend training of the civilian auxilary of the United States Air Force, which will include search-and-rescue training, classroom training and possible air operations.
The board will next meet Sept. 13 at the airport’s Terminal Building.
Aug. 11 correction: A story about the Warsaw Aviation Board in Wednesday’s edition contained incorrect information. The story should have said a hangar DePuy is considering purchasing is owned by Dick Miller, former owner of Miller’s Merry Manor.
