Deputy Saves Dog from Ice

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER – On Saturday at 6 a.m., the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a dog that had fallen through the ice on Webster Lake in the area of EMS W29A Lane.

Deputy Chris Francis responded to the scene to assess the situation.

Upon arrival, Francis observed a white labrador approximately eight feet off shore.

The white lab was standing on the bottom of the lake with its front paws scratching on the ice.

The dog was fatigued and unable to get out of the water.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, Francis commandeered a nearby paddleboat with the assistance of a bystander.

Francis and the bystander used the front of the paddleboat to break the ice up.

Using a life safety rope, Francis walked to the front of the paddleboat to approach the dog.

Francis was able to grab the back of the dog’s neck and get him moving.

Francis assisted the dog onto the shore where it was taken by the bystander to melt the ice off of it that had built up.
