Good dental health depends on early recognition and treatment of dental problems. On Jan. 18, Warsaw Community School third-grade students participated in a free dental screening program. Local dentists Drs. Fermback, Baker, Cullison, German, Herd, S. Hollar, Myers, Scripture and Stofer, with assistance from their office personnel, volunteered their time to perform a dental exam. Warsaw school nurses helped coordinate the program. Dental Assistance donated funds for screening supplies and free toothbrushes. Although dental screening is in no way a substitute for a
comprehensive dental examination with x-rays administered by a dentist in a dental office, it does help determine student dental needs that might not be found. Students with dental issues were referred to the Give Kids a Smile Program on Feb. 1. This program, hosted by some local dentists who donate dental care, assist children lacking dental insurance. School nurses, along with the local dentists, hope to make the dental screening program an annual event.
