Jean Ann Dennie and Stephanie Salyer were honored for their service to Warsaw Community Development Corp. during Monday night’s Warsaw City Council meeting. They will be replaced by Rob Chalfant, Male Fashions, and Adam Turner, Turner Valentine LLP. WCDC is a not-for-profit corporation with a mission to encourage the economic development of Warsaw's Central Business District through investments in people, buildings, businesses and land. Mark Dobson, Warsaw-Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce executive director, presented Dennie and Salyer with a plaque for their service on the WCDC Board of Directors. The board is comprised of 18 members. Dobson said Salyer and her husband diligently volunteered with First Friday clean up. “What an extraordinary volunteer this community has in Stephanie,” Dobson said. Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said Dennie and Salyer invested tirelessly into the community and downtown. “On behalf of the city this is a very appropriate venue to honor Jean Ann Dennie and Stephanie Salyer,” Thallemer said. In other business, Dobson presented a revision for the facade improvement matching grant program. The purpose of the grant program is to stimulate efforts to improve the street appearance of downtown Warsaw’s commercial and business facades. The revision is that an applicant may not receive more than two successive facade grants per business. Councilman Charlie Smith made the motion seconded by councilman Mike Klondaris. The council in December approved modifying the facade grant agreement to make it more business-friendly, Dobson said. The program allows applicants in the commercial district of Warsaw to be considered for the grant. Also during the meeting Mike Brubaker, Warsaw Fire Chief, presented a report for the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory. The territory had 1,521 responses in 2012. There were 128 responses in October, 113 in November and 131 in December. The council also reviewed a 2012 Warsaw Parks and Recreation report.
