Kosciusko County Democrats at their Saturday caucus selected two nominees to run for county offices in the November general election.
The Democrats did not have any candidates slated to run for the positions during the May primary.
Melody Sherwood, North Webster, will vie for the northern district Kosciusko County commissioner position against Republican incumbent Brad Jackson, East Fox Run Drive, Syracuse.
Frances Head, Democrat chairwoman, said, "Sitting here talking (with her previously), she sounded like she was full of fire."
Sherwood could not be reached for comment today. However, Democrat treasurer Steve Haines said she is an employee of Hampton Inn.
The other candidate selected by the Democrats is Daniel B. Slone, West Porter Street, Warsaw. He will run for Kosciusko County council-at-large against Republicans Thomas Anglin, North CR 875W, Etna Green; Maurice Beer, Old Ind. Road 15N, Milford; and Larry E. Teghtmeyer, Yarnelle Point, Warsaw. Anglin is the current at-large councilman. Only three of the four men can be elected.
Slone is 34 years old. He has lived in Warsaw "most of my life," he said today. Currently an employee of Hampton Inn, he has never run for an elected position before or performed community service.
The only other Democrat who will be running for office this fall is Joseph E. Banks III, North CR 400E, Warsaw. Banks won the Democrat nomination in the May primary. Banks is seeking the middle district commissioner position currently held by Eddie Creighton. Creighton is not running for re-election this year and Banks will be running against Republican candidate Ronald Truex, West Lovette Lane, Warsaw.
The caucus Saturday also discussed having a fund-raiser for all three of the candidates.
