PIERCETON - It's good-bye to a pile of rubbish when demolition begins Monday morning at the former Record Building site.
A four-year thorn in the side of the town council, members have attempted a cleanup of the derelict property at the corner of First and Market (Ind. 13) streets even before its collapse July 7, 1997.
In April owners Jim Perry, of Whitley County, and his sister, Margaret Sue Flack, of Texas, gave title to the town.
Earlier this month the board approved a resolution authorizing a brownsfield loan of $50,000 for cleanup.
Ransbottom Construction, Claypool, was awarded the contract for demoliton for hauling away the debris. The bricks will be used as roadfill at another location.
The start of the demolition begins at 11 a.m. Monday.
The town park grounds are considered a good place to view the demolition.
Representatives from Indiana Department of Environmental Management, IDFA and the Indiana Department of Commerce also will be present.
Grant applications have been forwarded to IDOC to build a senior center - town storage facility on the property.
