CHURUBUSCO - Deloris M. Gaff, 85, of rural Churubusco, passed away at 12:46 p.m. March 22, 2011, in Lutheran Hospital, after suffering from apparent congestive heart failure. She was hospitalized since Friday.
She was born Sept. 6, 1925, in Kosciusko County, to Charles and Flossie Ellen Johnson Leiter. On May 18, 1946, in North Manchester, she married Herman L. Gaff, who died Feb. 10, 1984.
She spent her formative years on the family farm near Sidney, and graduated from Sidney High School in 1943. The couple lived in North Webster for four years, and moved to the Churubusco area in 1965.
She was known as a hard-working individual who never seemed to stop. She had worked at the Magic Wand Restaurant, Churubusco; served as an attendant at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco; and worked as a cashier at the Mor For Less Grocery, Churubusco, for several years. In addition, she had volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne, for many years. She was a member of Christ Community Church, Churubusco, and most importantly loved and cherished her family.
Surviving are her beloved daughters, Sue (and spouse Ernie) Pyle, Churubusco, and JoDee (and spouse Leonard) Jaurigue, Fort Wayne; a brother, Max (and spouse Doris) Leiter, Sidney; a sister, Irene Barnes, Warsaw; 10 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Raymond and Eugene Leiter.
Services will be at 10 a. m. Saturday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco, with the Rev. Rick Van Horn, pastor of Christ Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
