ARGOS - Delores "Dee" Mae Irwin, 77, of 577 N. Michigan St., Argos, died at 8:27 p.m. July 11, 2009, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Hammond, to Rex E. and Mary I. Sackville Fites, who preceded her in death. On July 1, 1951, in Summit Chapel near Bourbon, she married Gene Irwin, who died May 27, 1996.
She lived in the Argos Community since 1951, but lived her entire life in the Marshall County area. She retired after 21 years at Citrus Hill Manufacturing, Plymouth, and worked nearly five years at Weight Watchers, Plymouth. She was a 1950 graduate of Tippecanoe High School and a member of Argos United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved with the choir and Spiritual Care Giver. She was also a member of Saint Joseph Hospital Auxiliary Unit 10; Marshall County Christian Women's Club; Sounds of Hope; Choir School (Board of Directors); and Marshall County Meal-On-Wheels.
Surviving are a daughter, Colette (and spouse Gary) Knott, Zionsville; a son, Curtis Irwin, Etna Green; two grandsons, Aaron and Stefan Knott, both of Zionsville; a sister, Mary (and spouse Bob) LaTurner, Normal, Ill.; and a brother, Donald (and spouse Sylvia) Fites, Peoria, Ill.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Argos United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ken Walker and Jim Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.
Calling is from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
