Defending Indy 500 champion Eddie Cheever Jr., talks with a crewman Wednesday after a practice run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Cheever had just driven a lap around the two and one-half mile oval at a speed of more than 222 miles an hour when a hose broke, dumping fluid on the track and sending his racer to the garage area for repairs.
