Deer Task Force Sets Training

Posted
The 2021-22 Deer Task Force training session for former DTF archers only will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 and Aug. 26 at the Warsaw Police Department.

Veteran Archers need to bring archery equipment and be prepared to qualify in shooting range.

Only veteran archers in the DTF program may apply to participate in the reduction effort For 2021-22, according to a provided newsletter. Veteran DTF archers are defined as being “archers who have successfully participated in our reduction effort for a minimum of one year since the inception of the program.”

The task force will invite only former archers to return and qualify in a shooting range using their own equipment for our reduction efforts this season. New applicants will not be accepted into the program for this year.

Veteran archers need to apply online before Aug. 24.   by going to warsaw.in.gov and apply online.  The DTF link is located within the police department webpage.

The DTF link is located within the Police Department webpage. Those interested in our program will also find the following updated links: returning DTF online archer application form for 2021-22, private landowner information and application and online training and dates for annual qualification in shooting range at WPD.

“We have been able to maintain a core group of committed archers in our program the past several years. We believe this group of veteran DTF archers is large enough, they know and follow our strict guidelines, and they have a proven track record of safely taking deer in our declared reduction zones,” stated the release. Adding new members into the program has been positive, but new members require more training and oversight which puts an increased burden on dedicated volunteers and the administrative team at WPD. The task force will evaluate the impact this “only veterans may apply” policy has on the program after the 2021-22 reduction effort, stated the release.
