Archers who have been selected to hunt in the city limits will begin hunting in declared reduction zones today.
The hunt will continue until Jan. 2. Archers will hunt in public reduction zones on weekdays, but not weekends and holidays.
This is the sixth year for the reduction effort in the city limits.
Archers were required to complete training in August at Warsaw Police Department on the history of the Deer Task Force, learn about the rules of the hunt and complete a proficiency test.
There were 93 archers who qualified to participate in the efforts this year. However, that does not necessarily mean all of the archers will hunt.
Archers will hunt on weekdays in approved public deer reduction zones including Hire Park, Springhill/Kosciusko Community Hospital area, Boggs Industrial Park and Lakeview Island area by Lakeview Middle School. Archers also will hunt on private property zones that landowners have approved for task force archers to hunt on. There have been 23 private properties approved for reduction efforts.
Other public properties are being considered for reduction efforts, according to Jeff Grose, Deer Task Force chairman.
Grose said he appreciates the collaboration of the Warsaw Police Department and Deer Task Force archers as well as the community’s support.
