Deer Reduction Applications Available

Applications for this year's proposed deer-reduction efforts are available now at the Warsaw Police Department.

The applications will be available until Sept. 13 for archers interested in participating in this year's proposed bowhunting deer-reduction efforts, according to Warsaw Deer Task Force chair Jeff Grose.Bowhunters interested in participating will be required to submit information including references and personal identification. They also must agree to a criminal background check.

Applicants will be required to complete a training session at WPD Sept. 13.

Warsaw Deer Task Force met July 31 at city hall to discuss another proposed deer-reduction effort for this year. Warsaw City Council will need to approve the proposed reduction effort.

To apply for the reduction effort, a person must be at least 21 years old. They also must attend all meetings and training sessions required by the animal nuisance management committee for the reduction effort in the nuisance zones.

Applicants also must have harvested at least three big game in the past using archery equipment.

Other requirements include not having any state game violations and passing a shooting proficiency test established by the management committee.

Archers selected by the management committee will be notified by phone if they are selected for the reduction efforts after they complete the training session and proficiency test.
