Deer Hunting Contest Starts Oct. 1

Team Whitetail Destruction is starting its Big Buck Contest soon.

The second annual event begins Oct. 1 and goes through the hunting season.

For a hunter to participate, they can visit the Team’s website and go to the “contact” tab. Under the tab is the e-mail, phone numbers and team members to contact.

The top three winners will be determined by which participants take down the biggest bucks. Winning prizes for first place are a Mathews Z-7 bow or a Remington 887 12-gauge shotgun. Second place gets a Glendel Buck 3D. The hunter in third place wins two hanging tree stands and one climbing sticks.

“The contest is driven toward recording your trip to the woods and capturing your hunt on video,” Terry Engstrand, Team president, said.

He said video score helps win the contest.

Last year, Tyler Huffman won with a 177-2/8-inch drop time buck.

The contest is taking the first 50 contestants. Because Indiana only allows a hunter one buck, a hunter can only enter one buck in the competition.

Engstrand said, “This year the big thing is we’ve opened it up to all legal firearms. But they must capture the shot on video if using a firearm.”

For the Big Buck Contest, Engstrand said, they have sponsors again and are anticipating more.

The awards and dinner banquet is scheduled for March 10 at 6 p.m. There were 330 people in attendance at last season’s banquet.

During the off-season, Team Whitetail Destruction sponsored two children to go to Camp Mollenhour Conservation Camp. The Team also held youth shooting events, and members attended other hunting banquets. They met with several professionals and officials from the hunting industry.
