Debra Collier's School Of Dance Hosts Nationally Known Choreographer

Debra Collier’s School of Dance will host nationally known master teacher and choreographer Steve Rooks.
Rooks will visit the studio to teach a master class for advanced Modern students Saturday.
Rooks is currently chair of dance and resident choreographer at Vassar College, and a guest teacher with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, The Martha Graham Dance Company, American Academy of Ballet, Ballet Nacional de Mexico and the International Summer School in Sydney, Australia. He is also a faculty member for the Modern program of the MasterWorks Festival this summer.
Rooks began his dance training in Washington, D.C. He continued his training in New York City as a scholarship student at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center.
Rooks danced and toured with the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, and the Martha Graham Dance Company, where her performed for more than a decade and achieved the rank of principal dancer.  
“It is a privilege to work with an artist such as Steve Rooks,” said studio owner Deb Collier. “We are excited to be able to offer our students the opportunity to work with a teacher with his caliber of training and experience.”
Rooks has created a number of dances including “Cool River” that premiered at Lincoln Center in 1996, and later became a part of the Graham Company repertoire.  He was a 2004 winner of the National Choreographic Competition at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and created two solos for the 2004 Youth American Grand Prix Ballet competition.
