Editor, Times-Union: I would like to start by thanking the Times-Union for hosting the Mayoral Debate April 26 at the Wagon Wheel Theatre. I must say that I was disappointed that more citizens did not attend. I would also like to thank Tony Miller for educating me on our City Airport. If I understand correctly, it has operated in the red by approximately $200,000 for the past two years. In addition, local corporations receive variable discounts on their fuel purchase ($400,000+ year). If our city airport cannot operate in the black as is, how can a $10 million expansion project (paid by tax dollars one way or another) be justified? Next, I have a question on the $1.3 million purchase on the new city hall. My understanding is the appraisals were $940,000-980,000. This purchase price was said to be almost $1,000,000 under tax assessment. I have checked county records online and cannot find a tax assessment record that exceeds $1,226,100 since 2007 and the 2010 assessment is $1,078,000 for the two parcels purchased. Where is the million dollar savings and where did the stated $2.2 million assessed value come from? I’m confused! But I’m voting May 3. Please join me! Kim Hart Warsaw, via e-mail
