The Indianapolis man found dead Sept. 2 on McKenna Road died due to a fall, resulting in his accidental death.
According to Kosciusko County Coroner Tony Ciriello, Ty Sawyer Lee Brown’s cause of death was due to a subdural hematoma, which causes bleeding on the outside of the brain. Ciriello said Brown fell, and his death is ruled as accidental. Toxicology results showed alcohol in Brown’s system, with his BAC at 0.21.
Brown was 20 years old and a junior at Butler University at the time of his death. According to a GoFundMe page for his family, Brown was visiting Kosciusko County for the Labor Day weekend.
A man called 911 around 5 a.m. Sept. 2 and told police an unresponsive man was lying on McKenna Road near JT’s Lakeside Campground, formerly known as Pic-A-Spot Campground. The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office pronounced Brown dead at the scene. His time of death was 5:05 a.m., Ciriello said.
Police later determined that Brown had left the Barbee Landing on foot, heading west, around 2:30 a.m. The bar is about a 10-minute walk from where his body was found. Brown was last scene on video surveillance at 3:21 a.m. as he walked past the Barbee Hotel, police said.
Ciriello said Brown’s body suffered other injuries and it appears he was hit by a vehicle, however, police have not released any new information regarding the investigation.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chris Francis said anyone with information or surveillance video of the area are urged to contact KCSO Det. Sgt. Josh Spangle or Det. Sgt. Neil Likens at 574-267-5667.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 for anyone who gives information that leads to an arrest.
