Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
SOUTH WHITLEY -ÊWhitko varsity girls basketball coach Ray Davis announced his resignation this morning.
Davis was not at school this morning and messages left at his home were not returned.
Whitko went 48-55 in five years under Davis. The Wildcats finished over .500 the first two years under Davis but finished under .500 the last three years.
The best record came during the 1995-1996 season, when Whitko went 13-7. The Wildcats won no sectionals and no Three Rivers Conference titles in the five years. Before class basketball, Whitko was a sectional runner-up in 1995, 1996 and 1997, losing to state powerhouse Huntington North every time. The last two years during class sectionals, Whitko fell out in the first round with double-digit losses.
Davis leaves as the winningest coach in Whitko's varsity girls basketball history.
Davis offered no explanation for his resignation, which was received through the fax machine.
