Davis Honored On Veterans Day

Mike Davis, adjutant of American Legion Post 49, was honored Friday with both the Governor's Award and the Johnny Appleseed Award for his continued dedication to serving veterans in the community.

Davis, who has been with the Legion for 39 years, received the awards during the annual Veterans Day lunch at the Legion home and the Veterans Day ceremonies held at Center Lake Pavilion.

"I feel extremely honored," Davis said after hearing the news of his Governor's Award. "My experiences with the Legion have been overwhelming at times, but incredible. Being with the vets is just incredible."

During his time with the Legion, Davis held every available office, and was the Legion Commander of the Second District of Indiana in 2004, which was the largest district in both numbers and area covered in the state.

"I couldn't be happier. I'll be putting this up in my computer room," Davis said upon seeing the Governor's Award.

Perhaps he'll have room to hang his Johnny Appleseed award beside it, which U.S. Rep. Mark Souder awarded to Davis during the annual Veterans Day dinner at the pavilion.
