David Trull Tyler, 72, Westfield, formerly of Warsaw, died Aug. 27, 2018, in Carmel.

David was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Aurora, Ill., to Claude T. and Erba J. Ames Tyler.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; an older sister, Sandra; and a twin brother, Donald.

David is survived by his wife, C. Joan (Grimes) Tyler; his sons: Jonathan (Melisa) Tyler, Timothy (Shelia) Tyler and Matthew (Laura) Mitchell; and his grandchildren: Luke, Lillian, Rachel, Rebekah, Jacob and Nicholas.

Dave was a graduate of Warsaw Community High School and attended Purdue University. He was a veteran of the United State Army and served during the Vietnam era in the air defense artillery as a fire control specialist of Nike-Hercules missiles in the United States and in Germany.

Dave, like his father before him, was the owner and president of Tyler Machinery Co. in Warsaw. He used his natural engineering, communication and analytical talents to design and manufacture industrial woodworking machinery, which he then sold worldwide. He took great pride in his company, employing many people from the Warsaw community. Dave later owned Azure Software and developed applications for industrial manufacturing companies.

Dave would sometimes introduce himself as a farmer and enjoyed tending to his farm ground and home east of Oswego, affectionately referred to by him as “The Briar Patch.”

Later in retirement, Dave was a supporter of environmental issues and led efforts to implement environmentally sound local public policies. He was a member of the board of directors of the Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners and director emeritus of The Watershed Foundation. David’s environmental contributions resulted in recognition in 2007 by the LTPO as the year’s Distinguished Lake Citizen and by the Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation as a Cattail Award winner, which is presented for outstanding environmental service.

Dave was an avid tennis player and played well into retirement. He enjoyed playing at the Warsaw Racquet Club and later the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.

He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs baseball fan and was one of the millions of longsuffering fans that found sweet relief and joy when he saw the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.

Dave enjoyed traveling, whether for business or pleasure, and traveled the world visiting countries in Asia, Europe, South America, the Caribbean, as well much of the United States.

A remembrance gathering for David will be scheduled at a later date.
