David Paul Burkhart, 62, Winona Lake, passed away at 6:20 p.m. June 6, 2014, at Indiana University Health Care, Tipton. He was born March 30, 1952, in Warsaw, to Chad and Martha Avo Goble Burkhart. On Aug. 8, 1975, in Hopkinsville, Ky., he married Dorothy Zwick, who survives in Winona Lake. He was a lifetime Warsaw area resident. He was a 1973 graduate of Warsaw Community High School and attended Cameron University, Lawton, Okla. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant (E-6) in the Army Medical Corps with 20 years active duty, retiring in 1987. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he worked for various poultry companies, including Mack Egg, Egg Innovation and Midwest Poultry. He was member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Pierceton. Also surviving are three children: Chad William (and spouse Rose) Burkhart, Claypool; Brian (and spouse Karrie) Burkhart, Warsaw; and Melissa Shepherd, Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren, Liberty Mae and Samuel Dynamite Burkhart; his parents, Chad and Martha Avo Burkhart, Claypool; two brothers, Larry (and spouse Gail) Burkhart, Warsaw, and Wayne (and spouse Gail) Burkhart, Columbia City; and a sister, Brenda (and spouse Robert) Haywood, Claypool. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Ann Burkhart, and a brother, Douglas Taylor Burkhart. A celebration of life will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Pierceton, with Father Andrew Curry officiating. Burial is in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool with military honors rendered by American Legion Post #49, VFW Post #1126 and the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard.
