SYRACUSE – David Lee Shields, 64, of Syracuse, passed away Jan. 13, 2012, in his residence.

He was born Oct. 21, 1947, in Marion, to Carl and Helen Clark Shields. On Oct. 18, 1969, he married Nancy Jo Koher, who survives.

He was a 1967 graduate of North Webster High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1968-71. He worked in sales throughout his adult life, including insurance and auto/RV sales. He was a barber prior to his career in sales. He was a member of Wawasee Heights Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the Monday evening Men’s Bible Study and was responsible, along with his wife, for serving Sunday morning breakfast on special occasions. He loved to share his faith with friends and family and was a mentor to many. He enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He was loved for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and gift of hospitality. He will always be remembers for his contagious laugh.

Also surviving are a son, Jeff (and spouse Nicky) Shields, New Paris; two granddaughters, Morgan and Emily, both of New Paris; a brother, Dennis (and spouse Sally) Shields, Marion; a sister, Roberta (and spouse Ralph) Kauffman, Atlanta, Ind.; his mother-in-law, Jean Koher; and a brother-in-law, J.R. Koher, Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his father-in-law.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wawasee Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Pat Park officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery with full military honors.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E. CR 1000N, Syracuse, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
