COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - David "Dave" Allen Walker, 60, of Cookeville, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Jan. 19, 2009.
He was born June 21, 1948, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Ralph and Mary Ruth Turner Walker. On Dec. 4, 1987, in Paulding, Ohio, he married Patricia Walker, who survives.
He was an active member of Stevens Street Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He was an insurance agent in Fort Wayne for many years. Upon moving to Cookeville, he founded Common Sense Publishing, which publishes the Senior Times, Our Journey and Celebrations Magazine.
Also surviving are his mother, Mary Ruth Walker, Ohio; two sons, Jon (and spouse Michelle) Walker, Defiance, Ohio, and John (and spouse Michelle) Latimer, New Haven; three daughters: Elizabeth Walker (and companion Jeremy Davis), Warsaw; Lynette Latimer, Van Wert, Ohio; and Ruth Anne (and spouse Brad) Stanford, Columbia City; six grandchildren, Damien Walker, Katelynn David, Caitlin and Jacob Latimer, Laticia Purmort and Ciera Brower; two great-grandchildren, Macy Grace and Lochlen Purmort; a brother, Gary (and spouse Anna) Walker, Fenton, Mich.; and a niece, Lindsey (and spouse Jeff) Knox, Maryville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his father.
Services with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stevens Street Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Arms officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, Cookeville Chapel, Tenn., and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
