FORT WAYNE - Darwin D. Schoch, 86, Fort Wayne, died at 9:22 a.m. Jan. 14, 2009, in Dupont Hospital.

He was born June 3, 1922, in Arcola, to Cletis and Lilly Schoch. He married Fontella M., who survives.

He retired in 1978 from International Harvester after 32 years of service. He was a VB 108 Naval bomber and served as a squadrrian during World War II. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 47 where he served in various offices including post commander.

Also surviving are a daughter, Francella (and spouse Lee) Nichols, Warsaw; a son, Eldon (and spouse Peggy) Schoch, Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Neva Hunsaker.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, with the Rev. David Altman officiating. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery with graveside services by American Legion Post 47.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
