The Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department will host Country Music Award nominee Darryl Worley for a free concert Friday at Warsaw's Central Park. An opening performance by bluegrass band Rural Route will be at 6:30 p.m. and Worley will perform at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call the park office between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 372-9554.

In December 2002, Worley went on a USO tour of Kuwait and Afghanistan. He returned and wrote "Have You Forgotten."

"I felt it was my duty to come home and honor" the troops, Worley said, "It is a pro-American song. It is a pro-military song. I felt like some people tended to forget the terror and the horror we felt on 9-11. The first thing I thought of was, 'Those soldiers damn sure haven't forgotten what they're over there for.' And that's how the song came about."

The song is one of a barrage of releases by various musical artists, commenting for or against military operations undertaken by the United States since Sept. 11, 2001.

"Have You Forgotten" is the title track of Worley's latest album, released April 15.

"The idea behind this album was for it to have two sides," he said, "The first eight songs are for our troops - it's a tribute to the American soldier. The second half is like a retrospective look at where I've been in my music career up to this point."

In March, Worley performed for President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush at a concert for military families at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Fla. He also was presented with an American flag by Lt. Gen. Richard Cody (Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3) of the U.S. Army during a concert in Montgomery, Ala. The flag was one that was flown at the Pentagon on the first anniversary of Sept. 11. The flags were presented to people who have supported American troops and who have taken time to thank the families and soldiers for their service.
