Darrell W. Boling

Darrell W. Boling, 77, of Warsaw, passed away Sept. 9, 2011.

He was born Sept. 5, 1934, in Vigo County, to Roy and Mattie Ellis Boling. On Jan. 2, 1982, in Indianapolis, he married Karen Hammons, who survives.

A Warsaw resident since 1959, he graduated from Blackhawk High School, Terre Haute, in 1952;  Indiana State University in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in math; received a master’s degree in math from Indiana University; and an administrative certificate of school administration from St. Francis College.  In 1957, he entered the U.S. Army and faithfully served his country as an intelligence specialist E4-T at Ft. Holabird, Md., until his discharge in 1959. He worked at Warsaw Community Schools from 1959-90. He held the following positions: math teacher, industrial arts teacher, dean of students, athletic director, assistant principal, associate principal and assistant superintendent of schools. In addition, he worked at Lakeside Chevrolet from 1992-94 as general manager and CXR X-Ray Corp. from 1994-97 as assistant technical superintendent. He was a member of American Legion Post 49, Warsaw; Warsaw Kiwanis; Retired Teachers Association; and was private math tutor.

Also surviving are three daughters: Kim Cretcher  (and companion Doug Pifer), Cindy (and spouse Tony) Elliott and Daena (and spouse Eric) LeFavour, all of Warsaw; a son Brian (and spouse Melissa) Davison, Warsaw; a brother Don (and spouse Barbara) Boling, Farmersburg; and 10 grandchildren: Shawn Cretcher, Cortney and Brandon Elliott, Ryan and Jack Lowe, Morghan, Wesley and Lucas LeFavour and Andrew and Jenna Davison. He was preceded by a sister, Dixie Pound; a brother, Roy “Gayle” Boling; and his parents.

A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Warsaw Community Church with Pastor Denny Wilson officiating and with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126. Burial will be private in Oakwood Cemetery.
