COLUMBIA CITY – Daniel Rosas Torres, 85, of Columbia City, passed away at 11 p.m. Jan. 9, 2012, in Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.

He was born March 20, 1926, in Hondo, Texas, to Frutoso and Maria Rita Rosas Torres. In 1948, in Eagle Pass, Texas, he married Celia “Sally” Martinez. On June 7, 1984, in North Carolina, he married Anna Marie Karolina Pohl. Both preceded him in death.

He was raised in Texas and in 1948 moved to Columbia City. He worked at JI Case Implements, Churubusco, in the late 1950s and early 1960s and from 1962-82 he worked at Weatherhead Co., Columbia City, in production and machining. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Eagles Lodge 1906 and United Auto Workers Local, all of Columbia City.

Surviving are a son, Oscar R. (and spouse Bonnie) Torres, Columbia City; three daughters, Irene (and spouse Daniel) Strong, Urbana, Ohio, and Gloria (and spouse Keith) Kesling and Elvia (and spouse Walt) Barnes, all of Columbia City; five grandchildren; seven  great-grandchildren; a brother, Samuel R. Torres, Columbia City; and a sister, Nativedad Riojas, Yakama, Wash. He is preceded in death by his parents and six  brothers and sisters: Jose, Jesusita, Frutoso, Candelario, Maria and Baudelia Torres.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Arcola, with Father Alex Dodira officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with a rosary recitation at 7:30 p.m.
