SYRACUSE – Daniel “D.J.” Garza Jr., 21, of Cromwell, died at 12:31 p.m. Oct. 9, 2011, from injuries suffered in a train/pedestrian accident in Syracuse.
He was born Jan. 14, 1990, in Brownsville, Texas, to Daniel and Janie Benavides Garza.
Moving to the Syracuse area from Texas in 1992, he attended Wawasee Community Schools. He formerly worked at Lippert Components, Goshen.
Surviving are a son, Itzek Simmons; his mother and stepfather, Janie and Rigoberto Mendoza, Cromwell; his father, Daniel Garza, Mexico; and grandparents, Ricardo and Guadalupe Benavides, Ligonier, and Rogelio and Rosa Garza, Brownsville, Texas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ligonier, with Father Wilson Corzo officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with a rosary service at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
