MENTONE — Dale H. Stiffler, 90, rural Mentone, died at 10:25 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Elkhart, to Hobart and Lura Williamson Stiffler. On March 20, 1955, he was married to Oretha C. Bickel at Fish Lake Lutheran Church, Millersburg. She preceded on Nov. 28, 2008.
Dale was a farmer and a carpenter for many years.
He was a graduate of Elkhart High School in 1945. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a part of the first group of soldiers to be drafted from Kosciusko County. He was discharged at the rank of sergeant.
He was a member of Warsaw American Legion. He enjoyed farming, gardening and raising animals, including sheep and hogs.
Survivors include two sons, Patrick (wife Elaine) Stiffler, Fortville, and Steven (wife Lori) Stiffler, Akron; and four granddaughters: Amanda Stiffler, Jenny (husband Justin) Overmyer, Jessica (husband Mitch) Melton and Jaclyn (husband Dylan) Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Lura Stiffler; and his wife, Oretha Stiffler.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, in King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Jason Rice officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by Warsaw American Legion Post 49.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
