He's from Minnesota and she's from Illinois. They met during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah.
Fresh from the Salvation Army Officer Training School, Joel and Amy Dalberg moved to Warsaw at the end of June.
Taking over the post left by Capt. Matt Osborne, the young captains are settling into their first posting for the Army.
"We were in Fort Wayne last summer and fell in love with Indiana," Joel said. "We couldn't believe our luck when we were assigned to Warsaw."
Joel's parents and stepparents are Army officers, so he is used to being on the move.
"I loved growing up in the Army," Joel said. "It's a great heritage; it's such a great organization. You do have to move a lot. It's one of the sacrifices you make when the Army needs you."
Amy met an officer's daughter when she was 13. The girl invited her to Army youth activities and Amy found a career path. She's never lived in a small town before, but discovered it is a small world when she met Joel in Salt Lake City.
Amy knew Joel's father and had watched over his sisters during the day in Chicago.
The couple, both 26, have a 7-month-old daughter, Annika.
They plan to focus on ministry and to develop youth programs.
"We are hoping to reach out to the youth who are looking for things to do," Joel said. "We want to stay in Warsaw. There's a lot going on here and we'd like to be here longer than anyone has in the last few years."
