Curtis Owens, 82, of Warsaw, passed from this life to begin his eternal journey with Jesus Christ at 1:35 a.m. June 22, 2013, in Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw.
He was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Prestonsburg. Ky., to Johnie and Mary Adams Owens. Later the Owens family became residents of Silver Lake. On May 9, 1953, in Silver Lake, he was married for 57 years to Katy Jane Miller, who preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2011.
On June 16, 2013, he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer after surgery which affected his stomach, gallbladder and colon. He remained in the hospital until his death.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County where he worked as a molder for Dalton Foundries, Warsaw, and retired after 43 years. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. His favorite pastime was being with his horses. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the memories he made with them.
His son-in-law, Rev. Michael D. Tomlinson, pastors New Beginning Assembly of God, Nappanee, and also works for Zimmer Inc., Warsaw. His grandson-in-law, Ryan Neese, who is married to Michelle Neese Tomlinson, works for Lake City Bank, and they teach and lead worship at New Beginnings Assembly of God. His granddaughter, Jessica Tomlinson, is a teacher at Wee Care Wesleyan Church in Warsaw and is the Kidz club pastor at New Beginnings Assembly of God.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn S. Owens (and spouse Rev. Michael D.) Tomlinson, Warsaw; two granddaughters, Michelle S. (and spouse Ryan) Neese, Warsaw, and Jessica A. Tomlinson, Warsaw; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Dylan Neese; two brothers, Orval Owens, Warsaw, and Johnnie Dean Owens, Mentone; and five sisters: Madie Camel, Mt Gillian, Ohio; Faye Francis and Eula Manns, both of Palestine; and Beulah Yates and Alice Brown, both of Claypool. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, with the Rev. Michael D. Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
