Cumberland Scores 1000th Point; Whitko Splits Games

GREENFIELD – Playing in a tournament at Greenfield Central High School, Class 2A No. 1 Whitko split a pair of girls basketball games Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats opened tournament play with a 67-61 loss to Gary West Side. It was just the second loss of the season for Whitko.
Whitko led Gary West 13-11 after one quarter of play, but trailed 27-24 at halftime and 48-40 at the end of the third quarter.
Brianna Cumberland led the Lady Wildcats in the loss with 17 points, while Aly Reiff and Hanna Yohe scored 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Dana Evans led Gary West with a game-high 36 points, while Dash Shaw and Jae’Lynn Parker chipped in with 10 points each.
In Whitko’s second game of the tournament, the Lady Wildcats led Richmond 15-8 after one quarter of play and 25-14 at halftime en route to a 45-29.
Whitko is now 12-2 on the season.
Cumberland, who surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her prep career, led Whitko with 16 points in the win over Richmond. Brielle Harrison and Ellie Snep chipped in with seven points each, while Kennedy Krull finished with six.
Following her 33 points in the two games Thursday, Cumberland has 1,011 career points and is second on the program’s all-time scoring list.
The Lady Wildcats are in action again today against Westfield in the fifth-place game of the tournament.
