Culver Academies Boys Hoops Team Put On ProbationINDIANAPOLIS – Head coach Mark Galloway and his Culver Academies boys basketball team were put on probation Monday, the Indiana High School Athletic Association announced.
A statement released by the IHSAA said the team said the sanction would be for the 2019-20 season.
“Probation is a severe type of warning that an illegal act has occurred, is a matter of record, and shall not be repeated. Similar and further acts which violate IHSAA by-laws and/or policies of the Association by the boys’ basketball program shall be dealt with in a more severe manner,” the statement read.
The IHSAA did not say in the press release what the violations were.
Galloway, entering his 10th year at Culver Academies and his 18th overall, will serve a four varsity game suspension, and cannot coach any team at any level while serving the suspension. The Eagles will open at home vs. Indianapolis HomeSchool Nov. 25, then travel to Rock Island (Ill.) for a game the next night. After a home game against Chicago Military Dec. 6, the suspension will end after Culver Academies’ game at Fort Wayne Wayne Dec. 7.
Warsaw will host the Eagles Jan. 7.
The school has two administrative provisions to complete, including:
• Providing the IHSAA with “a written plan of education for the athletic department staff respective of IHSAA by-laws, policies and procedures on or before November 30, 2019.”
• “Document face-to-face meetings with the coaching staff covering the aforementioned topics and provide said documentation to the IHSAA.”
Failure to comply with the provisions or another violation during the season “shall disqualify Culver Academies from participating in the 2019-20 IHSAA boys basketball tournament series.”
The statement did said IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox commended the school administrators for their cooperation and professionalism during the investigation.
