Chris Chocola officially announced his candidacy for Congress Thursday.
He is running as a Republican for the Third District U.S. House of Representatives seat currently held by Rep. Tim Roemer, D-South Bend.
The campaign theme is "it's all about you," Chocola said, "because I truly believe in what you can accomplish if given the chance."
Chocola said he believes in public service, not public careers. "Moderate rhetoric and skillful fence-riding is no substitute for political courage and leadership," he said.
Chocola said Roemer has lived and worked in Washington for nearly 20 years.
In his statement, Chocola also addressed individual rights and responsibilities. "My campaign will not focus on me or the great things I'm going to do in Congress. Instead, we'll focus on what individual Americans can do, and what we can accomplish together," he said.
Chocola is chairman of the board of Choretime-Brock, an agricultural manufacturing company based in Milford. He lives in Bristol with his wife, Sarah, and their two children.
"I'm proud and humbled that so many people have been willing to support my campaign," Chocola said. "This just reinforces my commitment to running a grass-roots, people-oriented campaign."
