To address the needs of the hungry, the Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association is sponsoring CROP Hunger Walk 2008 in Warsaw.

The annual CROP Walk will be at Center Lake Pavilion Sept. 28. Registration begins at 1:15 p.m. and the walk begins at 1:39 p.m.Last year's CROP walk raised more than $7,000, and was able to distribute 25 percent of the funds to Combined Community Services, Our Father's House and Salvation Army.

Larry McCleary, walk chair, said there are currently 120 people registered for the walk and the goal is to have 200 walkers.

"Participating in the walk is community service and helps us bind together to fight hunger in our local community," McCleary said.

There will be two walks people can participate in.

A 4-5 mile walk will begin at Center Lake Pavilion, go around Pike Lake, continue to Beyer Farm Trail, Center Street and end at Center Lake Pavilion.

A shorter 2-mile walk will leave from Center Lake Pavilion, continue to Oakwood Cemetery and Market Street and end at the pavilion.

Participants solicit pledges for the walk. All proceeds are channeled through the Church World Service, with 25 percent being returned to the community in a form of a grant distributed to local agencies that serve the needy.

Walk participants are encouraged to bring canned goods to the CROP Walk where boxes will be available for donation that will go to local food pantries.

People can register the day of the walk, but are encouraged to register before the day of the walk by e-mailing McCleary at lmcclear@dpyus.jnj.com
