A Silver Lake man is facing a felony charge after his gun went off in his garage and the bullet went through the wall of the Silver Inn while customers were inside.

Jordan Ross Bunch, 25, of 108 N. Jefferson St., Silver Lake, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:36 p.m. Wednesday and faces a Level 6 felony charge for criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Nov. 24 in Kosciusko Superior Court I, on Nov. 18 Silver Lake police were dispatched to Bunch’s home after a woman called and said she needed their help following a fight.

Upon arrival, police spoke to the woman and another man at the home who said they were concerned about Bunch because he was upset about a recent break-up and was drinking. The man also told police that he was on the phone with Bunch earlier that day and said he heard a gunshot and then didn’t hear from Bunch again, so he raced to the home. The man said Bunch had made threats earlier to shoot himself because he was upset.

When the woman got the call at work about Bunch’s activity, she came home and took Bunch’s gun away and locked it in her truck. She told police that angered Bunch, and he demanded his weapon back and then ripped a door off its hinges.

When police spoke with Bunch, according to court papers, he admitted he had been drinking and was in the garage when he tripped, causing the gun to drop and discharge.

Police located a hole in the garage from the bullet, but the bullet didn’t stop there. The bullet then traveled across the Silver Inn patron parking lot, entered the Silver Inn through the stock room wall, exited the stock room wall and proceeded in the direction of a construction site. During this time, the Silver Inn was open for business, and there were employees and patrons inside, according to the affidavit.

Bunch’s bond was set at $5,250.
